Neighborhood Cookies

2021 Dallas CookieCon

First time attending CookieCon. Becky and I had so much fun. We took PreCon classes with Arty McGoo and Bliss. Amy Hicks taught a mixed medium “class” and we took electives to learn quilling and fondant.

The BIG news is Tiki won 2nd Place Beginner in The Anything Goes Category. I thought I was going to faint when my name was announced. And I won a raffle prize. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!

Class & Neighborhood Decorated Sugar Cookies

Under the Sea

Great online class with Amy Hicks. We were challenged to create beautiful cookies…… and then level them up with our own design ideas.

Tiki Hot

I have been a fan of Amy Hicks of Seriously Sweet on Davis Street for the last year. Amy has done numerous FaceBook lives and I have learned so much from her. Amy started a new FaceBook group Cookie Snack Attack with Seriously Sweet and I eagerly joined. Every Tuesday is Two Tutorial Tuesday and this is so much fun.

At the end of June Amy introduced her summer Tiki Hot theme of cookies. I purchased the cutters from Dots and Bows and off I went. I have tried new products, did new techniques, and pushed myself to “color outside the box” in order to create these cookies. Today I finished this project. I must say I am proud of myself.

Thank you Amy Hicks!!

Decorated Sugar Cookies

On February 9, 2020 I attended a sugar cookie decorating class led by April Rolden of Sugar High Cookies. I have limited experience baking and even less experience with decorating cookies, but I was fascinated by the cookies April had made in the past for various CLC events. What a wonderful afternoon! April helped several of us decorate a set of valentine cookies. She had already baked the cookies and made the royal icing. All (“all!!”) we had to do was flood, pipe, and have fun.

I was hooked. I came home with the remaining royal icing and decorated a few cookies. This was much harder without April by my side.

My plan was to learn some more and make some decorated cookies for when I would next host bunco at my home.

Well……….. along came Covid 19. I have used my time at home to watch YouTube videos, FaceBook tutorials, and ultimately join a cookie crew and a virtual cookie club.

My friend Becky Norton and I call ourselves the 2Bs. We each make 20 cookies a week which we deliver to neighbors every Friday.

I think this is an addiction! (LOL), but I am having fun.

Cookies

September 4, 2020

Labor Day Cookie. 5 point pinwheel. This is a Dots and Bows cutter. This was a fun cookie to do. I enjoy wet on wet.

August 28, 2020

This is a cutter from Dots and Bows. Katrina decorated this cookie during one of her tutorials. I wanted to make an apron featuring bees (2 Bs). I added a cute bee royal icing transfer to the bodice. The stencil for the apron bees was very difficult to work with. It was a 2 part stencil, and it just would not line up. I ended up cutting this stencil to pieces in order to align the bee. I also did lace effect for the first time.

August 21, 2020

I have wanted to do a flip flop cookie for a long time. I looked at many examples on Pinterest and decided on a combination of ideas. I was going for a Hawaii look.

August 14, 2020

Glamor! I took a Chibo class with Anne York of Flour Box. Love love love these shoes. I used a 2 part stencil from Killer Zebras to create the animal print. I later practiced doing the animal print using a wet on wet technique.

DB Topiary & Orange Blossom

August 12, 2020

I have officially become a member of The Dots and Bows Cookie Crew. Each month there is an icing tutorial and a tutorial for 4 or more cookie cutters. 2 cookie cutters are included in the Crew. My goal is to decorate the two included cookies each month I am a member of the Crew. Here are my first two cookies. I did paint the rim of the topiary blue a few days after this photo was taken.

Tiki House

Not a gingerbread house……. a Tiki House. This is from The Cookie Countess. I started with gingerbread, went to plan B…. sugar cookie with white royal icing. I am very pleased with how this turned out. So cute.

Swimming Suit Beauty

August 7, 2020

Sweet and Saucy Life had this swimsuit cookie cutter and this stencil from Sifted Heart Confections in the monthly subscription box. April did a tutorial and I knew I had to make this cookie. Since it was Shark week, Becky did a shark and a life preserver with a bite out of it. We color coordinated the blue ruffle of the swimsuit with the blue life preserver.

Melting Snowman

July 31, 2020

It is Christmas in July! A cute melting snowman from a Dots and Bows tutorial. Glitter and airbrushing.

July 24, 2020

Becky painted an amazing frog cookie to honor Oran Bain. I decided to do a fish, since Oran loved to fish with Charles. This is from a Dots and Bows tutorial.

July 16, 2020

Colorful Toucan using Bobbi’s cutters. Wet on wet technique for the bill. Bark technique.

July 9, 2020

Chocolate sugar cookies using Lila Loa’s recipe. The kitchen smelled so good. Royal Icing star transfer, airbrushing, and look at the flag.

July 1, 2020

It is the 4th of July! A red white and blue ice cream cone from Flour Box tutorial. Airbrushing and each sprinkle placed individually.

June 24, 2020

I saw these rain boots on Facebook and knew I wanted to recreate them. Ordered the cutter and 3 piece stencil from Killer Zebras. I also had to order quite a few airbrush colors from Americolor. Then I decided the rain boot needed a bow. Amazon to the rescue. I used fondant and a fondant mold for the first time. I painted each bow and glitter dusted the center of each bow.

June 17, 2020

I saw this cutter on Bobbi’s Etsy site and challenged myself. I would airbrush lines and shade this cowboy hat. Plus I had to make navy and red royal icing. (Difficult) The stars are sprinkles.

June 10, 2020

This is from my Anne York Flour Box Chibo Class. First time I did Royal Icing stencil. Glitter spray.

June 4, 2020

Borrowed this pineapple cutter from Becky. I based this design on YouTube video from Haniela. Wet on wet swirl. I also used very thick Royal Icing to pipe the leaves. Note the two colors piped simultaneously.

May 28, 2020

It is Margarita time. I am missing Gringo’s. Sanding sugar on the rim.

May 21, 2020

Butterflies!!!! I watched many many many YouTube videos to figure out how to do this cookie. I used my glitter dusts and painted rings on the body. Each butterfly was different. So pretty!!!

May 14, 2020

Lattes for some neighbors. Airbrush attempt. Writing attempt.

May 5, 2020

I saw this peacock on a tutorial from Flour Box. How hard could it be? Ha!! This took me many many days. All kinds of new techniques.

Love the colors. And there were a lot of colors.

April 30, 2020

Saw this Killer Zebra 3 part stencil and has to do this cookie. First time using my new Cookie Countess airbrush.

April 15, 2020

Let’s practice some airbrushing. Unfortunately my new airbrush sprayed out color when it shouldn’t. The cookies were fine luckily.

April 4, 2020

I saw these parrots on the Lila Loa website. I watched the tutorial 100 times. I made each parrot unique. This took forever, but I loved this. Doing these cookies hooked me.

February & March, 2020

First cookies. First bunco cookies which were never eaten.
